from National Camera and Summary: Having risked it for a few years using a LowePro Mini Trekker backpack , with a Camelbak in the outside pocket, I jumped at the chance to purchase the Rover when I saw it came out. No more need to be paranoid that my bladder will break causing all my gear to get wet during a ride. Having purchased a number of LowePro packs in the past I expected nothing but good quality out of this one as well.
It's pretty spend for a backpack but not out of lilne. I think its positives outweigh its negatives. Strengths: It does like it says, the waterproof bottom section holds your gear in a nice enclosed area. It is deep enough to fit a 80-200mm lens, wide angle, flash, camera body, and some other misc items.
The top part has a nice good open section for the bladder , a rain coat or clothing, food etc.
Riding or wearing it is very comfortable with two straps one for your chest and one for you waist. Weaknesses: The biggest pain is the waterproof zipper. It is very difficult to close. If you are looking for a pack where you can be stopping every few minutes to get your gear out then this would drive you crazy. If you plan on riding or doing whatever you do to get to a location to shoot then it is not as bothersome. And forget about using the zipper during the winter, I was in negative temps and couldn't get it to budge.
The lower section does have a clasp that I find adequate to use to keep things close without having to use the waterproof zipper if you are not doing anything where you worry about getting your gear wet.
It also could use some more small pockets inside the waterproof area. It has two small pockets for your flash cards and that's it.
