Review 1 of 4

Price Paid:  $400.00 from Henrys'

Summary:

This HP 935 was my 2nd HP camera that served as an introduction to digital photography - the first being an HP 735, so I chose a camera that was fairly basic, and easy to operate. Just point 'n shoot ! I was quite satisfied with the results obtained with my digital image maker, but somewhat dishartened to learn it was no longer offered for sale by HP, and rendered 'obsolete' on thier website, a scant 6 months after I purchased it !
I considered trading up to the HP 945 model that had a much better lens with more optical zoom, but held off till the 'R' series cameras were introduced !
I only had 1 problem with the camera, when the lens refused to extend when the camera was turned on. This problem was repaired under warranty by HP, in a timely fashion, with no hassels !
Although I finally ended up purchasing an HP R707 model (to take advantage of a 1 year 1/2 back trade in offer from the camera retailer), I was most satisfied with the performance of my HP 935 digital camera !

Strengths:

Light, easy to use - point 'n shoot !\
Automatic or Manual modes
Optical viewfinder
5.3 MP resolution, for great 4x6 prints
Pentax lens - 3 x digital, 7 x optical (21x total zoom)
Built in flash unit
Uses 2 inexpesive, rechargeable AA batteries.
SD Memory Card storage
Video clip capability - if needed
Software with easy to use features.

Weaknesses:

Battery consumption excessive when using 'live view' in 1.5" lcd.
Must carry a spare set of batteries so you won't miss any shots,
so you need a quick charge potable battery charging unit.
Dock and connecting cables just clutter computer/desk area.
This camera should come with a carrying case included !

Similar Products Used:

HP 735

Customer Service:

Excelent !
The Pentax lens refused to open when camera was turned on.
(. . . even after resetting the camera with the reset button per camera manual )
Took it back to the dealer, who had it repaired by HP, under warranty
(no charge) in less than 2 weeks!

Review 2 of 4

Price Paid:  $249.00 from Office Max

Summary:

I was very impressed w/photo quality, ease of use, and features. BUT DO NOT buy this w/out testing in store. BIG PROBLEM w/battery drain using live view & zoom. CANNOT take more than 5-10 shots on live view w/out camera shutting it down. HP says hardware problems - suggested buying serial number below a certain number. STORES won't check for you when ordering from warehouse. DO NOT BUY.

Strengths:

Easy to use, great features

Weaknesses:

BATTERY drain - problems using live view. After 5-10 flash photos, live view shuts down - says no battery power. You can shut off camera and turn back on and it will work again for a few pictures. Slow to power up - slow between shots. My advice - seek another camera! You could lose precious shots fiddling w/camera. OK - if you never want to use live view.

Similar Products Used:

HP 1.2 mp - older model digital (no problems w/it although it also used up batteries quickly). Olympus D-565 (4.0 mp)

Customer Service:

They gave me one thing to try - didn't work. When I persisted w/problem - I was told there was a hardware issue. No offer to fix or replace. Was told to return to Office Max (who couldn't order based on serial number) which was the HP solution to find one below a certain serial number. SHOULDN'T HP pull these off the market?

Review 3 of 4

Price Paid:  $450.00 from Staples

Summary:

I have been very impressed with the image quality of this camera. You can definitely see a huge difference in the picture quality of this camera compared to that of my old kodak, 3.5 mp. It is very user friendly, and has an extensive help menu that can be valuable to those who need it--I haven't had the need yet. This camera has a nice, sturdy feel to it. I don't understand why more people aren't hovering around this camera. Perhaps because hp isn't such a big brand name as Cannon, Sony, Olympus, Nikon, etc. Great price! Great Camera!

Strengths:

Crisp, clear, beautiful pictures! Nice Zoom!

Weaknesses:

It does seem to drain the batteries quickly, but for some reason my battery indicator shows that it is fully charged every time I turn on the camera. I actually have been thinking about checking into the hp photosmart 945. It has an 8x optical zoom, and all the features of this camera.

Review 4 of 4

Price Paid:  $370.00 from Yahoo Shopping

Summary:

(1) After I used the flash, my camera is like in a “freeze” mode, it displays a message saying “Low Battery” and it automatically shuts down LCD. It then takes more than 10 seconds for the camera to charge up the batteries before I can use the flash again. This is really a test of my patient especially when I am taking picture in the night. Initially, I thought the problem is because I was using a rechargeable battery. But after I have tried Duracell and Energize, they all are giving the same problem. In my opinion, this camera seems to drink batteries... I have to wait for a long time for the battery to charge up before I can use to LCD again. That is a bummer for me! Unless you are one of those users who prefer the VIEWFINDER than the LCD. There is NO battery on the face of this earth that is designed for this block-sucking camera! Battery life seems worse than average!!! (2) Why can’t I upload picture BACK from PC to the camera??? The reason is that I use Adobe Photoshop to edit my picture and I want to put it back to the SD card so that I can send it for printing. Unfortunately, this crappy camera doesn’t do that. As far as I know with my lower resolution Sony digital camera, once I connected it to a PC, it appears as a REMOVABLE DRIVE, that means, I can easily download or upload by copy/cut and paste using Window Explorer. Unfortunately, this PH Photosmart 935 digital camera, I have to hunt for option to download and deleting the photo. This is a nuisance! And it is a “one-way ticket” because once I download to my PC, I can’t upload it back to the camera. This is my deepest regret to purchase from HP because I have to BURN the photo into a CD before I can bring it down to Walmart for printing.

Strengths:

As for the picture quality, it is fair good. I won’t say it is the best but it is quite compatible with other major brands of 5 mega pixel camera. I am fairly satisfied with. Apart from that, The HP Photosmart 935 is compact and easily to handle and easily operated with one hand, even though it is a plastic camera, it does feel solid and not flimsy.

Weaknesses:

Apart from the battery and uploading issues... The downloading software doesn’t really work with my XP desktop machine. Sometimes, it allows me to download photo from the camera to my PC. Sometimes, it just said not connected even though the camera LCD displayed that it is connected. Initially, I thought that my PC has was not set up properly so I tried it with my Compaq Presario 1500 Laptop, I still encounter that instability occasionally. For some unknown reason, this camera has red-eye problem whenever I am took picture in the night. Unfortunately, I have to say that the red-eye problem appears in about 95% of my photo that I took in the night so I have to PERMANENTLY set the camera to Red-eye to ON. Of course, that means my battery lifespan is much shorter.
