Summary: I've read the reviews, and they're very accurate in describing the camera. Though many have grown in pixel size and many different form factors now exist, the Coolpix 900s is still a great camera. It get's more 'Ooos and Ahhs' from other digital camera owners.
This is my third digital camera, and it's the best I've had.
I have had the camera for almost two years. The pictures are the best I've seen of the cameras I've owned. They print like real photos (the fine resolution). I've used it from selling stuff on the internet to taking pictures on family vacations.
NIKON SUPPORT About after 9 months of heavy use (a few drops and many trips to the ocean *stored in a ziplock bag*), the camera gave out on me. I couldn't believe it. I e-mailed Nikon support and they said to send it in with receipt. Well, I couldn't find my receipt for the life of me, so I sent it in and asked for them to charge me. Well, I got the camera back in four (4) days! NO CHARGE! They've got themselves a dedicated customer. PLUS, the phones weren't busy when I called in (8:00am PST).
RECOMMENDATIONS Buy a big memory card, and some NiHD batteries. Yeah, yeah all complain about battery life, but that's how digital cameras are. With the NiHD, I can shoot a whole days trip with one set. I keep three sets with me and carry two when I travel. Get a quick charger over an AC adapter. Batteries charge in about an hour (I recommend Olympus)and last over a half day of shooting. Buy a memory card reader. Don't use the cables that came with the camera. They work fine, but are too slow. Hey, they cost around $30, and with a years worth of pictures, easily pay itself off.
Summary YOU WON'T BE DISSAPOINTED WITH THIS CAMERA. It's great camera. I'm set on getting the 950 so I can print poster size photos. Strengths: Easy form factor. Easy to learn to use. Top quality photos. Weaknesses: Slow shutter speed. Vewfinder not representative of photo. Similar Products Used: Dimage V, Olympus 3030, Nikon 800 Customer Service: Excellent. Nikon has stood by their product. Yummy!
