Summary:

I bought this camera in 1999 before christmass. It makes verry sharp pictures and the collors are really natural. I use it mostly for putting products on internet.

Strengths:

Good sharpness and collor and contrast. Light and good looking and also very solid (can't say of other camera's) Good battery

Weaknesses:

takes about a second to calculate light and focus before the picture is taken. You'll learn to work with it

My flash did'n work after a few days. I returnd it and the camera was replaced inmediately! Still working!

Summary:

Excellent camera! True natural colors, only blueish in low light with snow. Bought it 2 years ago, and still think it is the best.

Strengths:

Small, durable, easy intiutive operating, good colors, good case, very good sharpness

Weaknesses:

The time it takes to calculate light and focus. (<1 sec)

Summary:

Compact camera has a nice feel and heft. The lens is well-placed in the middle of the unit, unlike many other cameras that put the lens on one side, making them suitable only for one-handed use. Controls seem very familiar to someone who is accustomed to Canon cameras.

Strengths:

Good battery life. Controls well placed.

Weaknesses:

No zoom. Low resolution. Doesn't include camera case.

Summary:

Canon's little A5 digital camera is as easy to use as any point-and-shoot, but offers a lot of versatility that allows for increasing your photography skills. Macro (close up) mode, built in flash, and a choice of image resolution from 640x480 to 1024x768 are some of the useful features.

Strengths:

The A5 has a fully automatic mode, which makes taking normal snapshots nearly brainless. It is small enough to carry in a shirt pocket, and has an automatic lens cover slide. Picture quality is very good. If you can find one at a good price, I recommend it as a great pocket camera.

Weaknesses:

After you get over the thrill of instant photo gratification, the fixed focal length lens will become a bit limiting. It is equivalent to a 35mm lens on a 35mm film camera, which is good for scenics and group photos, but pretty limiting for candid shots and individual portraits. Picture download using the serial cable (supplied) is easy, but fairly slow; it takes about 30 seconds per image for full resolution photos.

Summary:

I have used the Canon PowerShot A5 for many projects, including a school magazine, photos for newspaper articles, web pages, screen savers, newsletters, and hard copy photos. It has never let me down and has given me the scope to explore my own creativity as a photographer and digital imaging artists. A great unit for first time digital photographers wanting to dip their toes into this exciting new field.

Strengths:

The Canon PowerShot A5 has an excellent macro feature which allows you to capture amazing detail in close up shots. Battery life is great for a digital camera, comes supplied with lithium rechargeables. Range of shot quality, TV/video link is very useful for presentations. Love the panoramic photostitch feature!

Weaknesses:

Flash lacks depth and the supplied software, Ulead's PhotoImpact, is an excellent imaging software package, but doesn't come with any sort of a manual. Only regret is I didn't buy the PowerShot A5 Zoom.
