Review 3 of 6

Price Paid:  $450.00 from Best Buy

Summary:

I have had this camera for a few months now and could not be happier with it. I bought an extra 128MB memory stick and spare battery online for about half of what the stores wanted. The larger memory stick and spare battery is mandatory, as it would be with any digital camera. The quality of the pictures far excedes my expectations. They almost look like they are in 3D on an LCD monitor. Everything from landscape shots, to sports photography, and portraits are crystal clear. I retired my APS camera and haven't looked back. The camera connects to a USB port on my computer where you can easily transfer photo's to your hard drive. The guy in the store tried to sell me a memory stick reader but with the USB connection a card reader is not necessary. I bought this camera for it's size and picture resolution. I was happy to find out that is has a lot of other features, like voice clips, burst (2 shots quickly), spot meter, manual or auto ISO.

Strengths:

Excellent photo quality Easy to use Video mode uses memory efficiently No memory card reader necessary because the USB connection is very fast Small size Durable metal housing

Weaknesses:

I have had my DSC-P5 for several months now and am completely satisfied.

Review 4 of 6

Price Paid:  $599.00 from Best Buy

Summary:

This is a very user family camera, espeically for a semi-casual user because the OSD is clear. If you use any type of digital camer before, you don't even need to read the menu. Trust me, it's very simple. The picture quality can go up to 3.3M as well as recording live video with the audio as long as you have enough space in your memory stick. However, by default, it comes with 8MB. That's EXTREMELY unrealistic because you can only take 5 or 6 high quality pictures with this memory; therefore, I have 3 128MB handy, since the size of memory stick is so small. (small than a piece of gum)

Strengths:

The size and look of the camera is so compact and solid, the features are just enough for a casual user.

Weaknesses:

The life of the battery is great for such a compact size, but I bought an extra for spare, just in case :P.

Similar Products Used:

I also have experience of using Sony P-1. I enjoyed that camera too, but I started complaining the size when I saw the P-5 came to the market. Then, I bought the P-5 now. Canon G-1, G-2, CoolPix :P.

Review 5 of 6

Price Paid:  $599.00 from Circuit City

Summary:

I was attracted to this Sony model for its dimunitive size but sturdy build and feature set. I also liked the bundle that came with it (except the tiny 8mb Memory Stick). Sony has a very nice battery/charger system, with everything included. One of my pet peeves with digital cameras is having to spend additional money on rechargable batteries and chargers. These things should come with cameras. Anyway, the DSC-P5 has performed extremely well for me, producing beautiful images that belie its tiny stature. It is very easy and fun to use, excellent camera for a beginning digital photographer who wants better-than-beginner results.

Strengths:

Compact size; 3.2 mega-pixel resolution; 3x optical zoom; sturdy construction; beautiful images; ease of use; Sony quality

Weaknesses:

Small camera = small battery that has a fairly short life if you''re constantly using zoom and LCD screen. Highly recommend 2nd battery! You''ll also want a larger Memory Stick.
