Summary:

A very high quality camera, and you can get it for less than half the original price at ebay from time to time. The beauty of 4x5 and sheet film is that you can test you idea one at a time, actual cost is lower than roll film if you do your own chemistry. Have you seen a 4x5 color slide? You'll be blown away, like 32" vs 13" TV when compared to 35mm. 8x10 print(Epson 750) from 4x5/Epson 636(w/TPA) flatbed combination beats my canon 35mm/Polaroid 35ES hands down. Even my boss is impressed!

Strengths:

Solid, precise and beautifully finished equipment. Give you the feeling of a true professional. Movement is adequate. Revolving back adds convenient.

Weaknesses:

I feel 90mm is the limit for the wide end with standard bellow and a recessed board. I haven't got a chance to try shorter lens and bag bellow. A bit heavy.

Model Reviewed:
45NX View Camera

Summary:

This was my first large format camera, I have dabbled with other LF cameras before this one but settled on this one...it is much smoother and stronger than similarly priced cameras (although I purchased mine used but mint)...It is also fairly light (@ 7 lbs w/ a small lens) I think this camera is a great deal used; never seen a new one in any camera stores in our area. Its flexibility rivals the higher priced toyos and sinars I have compared it to. It's great

Strengths:

smooth focusing, movements lock solidly. easily taken apart to a compact size for transport

Weaknesses:

Calumet's wide angle bellows could only be used with the 360 back reversed and mounted in the vertical position...they may have better WA bellows now; found the standard bellows very nice.
